SUMMER 2025 TOUR : Central Park Women’s History Walk

Frederick Law Olmsted, Calvert Vaux, and even Robert Moses loom large in the story of Central Park. But what about Doris Freedman, Emma Stebbins, and Sally James Farnham? These women, among several others, have made their own mark on Central Park, but their legacies are often overlooked. On this 1.5-hour, 2-mile walk, we’ll learn their fascinating stories that’ll completely change the way you view NY’s most famous park.

FAQs

How long is the tour?

The tour runs for approximately 1.5 hours, depending on how much time we take to answer additional questions at a stop.

How much walking should I expect to do on this tour?

This tour involves walking at a moderate pace for 2 miles on mostly flat terrain. Wearing comfortable walking shoes is recommended.

What will we see on this tour?

We’ll be stopping at Wollman Rink, Rumsey Playfield, and, of course, the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument, among other sites.

Where is the meeting point?

Tours meet at Grand Army Plaza’s William Tecumseh Sherman Monument at 5th Avenue between 59th and 60th Streets. I’ll be wearing a visor so it’ll be easier to spot me.

Can children come on this tour?

Sure!

How large is the tour group?

For now, the tour group is limited to ten people.
On a related note, the plugin I use to book tours cannot book multiple people with a single booking form, so if you want to book 7 people for a tour, you’d have to go through the booking process 7 times. I am so sorry for inconvenience!

What is your cancellation policy?

I understand that unexpected changes can occur, and I will do my best to accommodate your needs. If your cancellation is at least 24 hours in advance of the tour, you will receive a full refund. If your cancellation is less than 24 hours in advance, you may request a voucher to attend a future tour, or you may transfer your spot on the tour to a friend.

Does the tour still run in bad weather?

With the exception of blizzards, hurricanes, or other dangerous conditions, this tour runs rain or shine. Please dress accordingly and bring an umbrella if necessary. I will notify participants and issue a full refund if a tour gets canceled.

Do you offer private tours?
